So this is Molly the Xzeejee. I've been tinkering with her as a character/person, her design, her story, and her whole world for a couple of years now and I'm finally getting to a point where I can write it all out. One of the most inspiring things I can do for my writing - and subsequent artwork - is to seek out new songs/musicians that inspire me. For some reason I write and draw so much better when I have a consistent soundtrack that reminds me of the story.

So "Daydream In Blue" is definitely one of those songs that reminds me of Molly and her story. More specifically, it reminds me of the beginnings of her relationship with the other main antagonist. Every time I hear this song Molly just starts dancing oh-so-sexily in my head and couldn't help but try to capture that. This picture really does look a lot how I saw her in my very first dream of her; dancing at a rave at utmost peace with herself and her place in the world.

Oh-ho-ho I can't wait to write this story. So much tragedy! Woo!

Hmm. I guess I would still consider this an over-glorified gesture-sketch. Even though it has basic color I haven't added any extra texture detail like fur or fabric. While I have "shaded" her in a way I haven't even hinted at any sort of background. Even the shading has a "gesture-ish" quality to it.

Good gracious gravy I've spent way too much time in art-school :/

However, this is probably one of my favorite illustrations I've done of Molly to date. I pushed a lot of personal boundaries even if it doesn't look like it, the main one being that I set a goal for myself that was just uncomfortable enough that I had to "reach" artistically but not so unrealistic that I gave up halfway through to never touch again. I'm pleased with the lighting even if it's wonky because it still feels "intuitive" to me. I actually used myself as a model this time and I was able to fix a lot of anatomy errors from the get-go. Barring getting another model and a ton of light-fixtures to get this all right, I think I did okay.

I didn't record the time. It was somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-2 1/2 hours I think. (I can tell you that I listened to the song a gajazallion times)
